Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 2000 block of Tuam

June 29, 2012 - The fatal shooting of one robbery suspect and wounding of another at 2000 block of Tuam about 6:05 p.m. on Thursday (June 28) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.


One male suspect, 20, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. What is believed to be a second male suspect, 21, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

The male homeowner, 39, was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants W. Meeler and J. Racus reported:

The homeowner was alone inside his residence at the above location when two unknown black male suspects forced their way into his residence through a glass front door. The homeowner yelled for the suspects to leave, but one of them broke through the glass door. The homeowner, fearing for his life, fired several shots and struck both suspects. One suspect collapsed at the scene and was transported to the hospital where he died. The second suspect fled the scene in a gold vehicle, which was discovered a short distance away.

HPD patrol officers later discovered a male with a gunshot wound at Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is believed to be the second robbery suspect.

The investigation is continuing.
