January 17, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 3200 block of the South Loop West (South Interstate Highway 610 West) about 10 a.m. on Jan. 7.

The male victim, 69, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Park and Officer D. Schlicter reported:

According to witnesses, the driver of a black Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling northbound in the 9900 block of South Main when he ran a red light at the intersection of the South Loop West service road.  The Ford then struck a silver Chevrolet Impala traveling westbound on the South Loop West service road.  The driver of the Chevrolet (victim) was transported to the hospital and later died.  The 48-year-old male driver of the Ford was not injured in this incident.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is continuing.
