February 13, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at the West Loop North (West Interstate Highway 610) and the Northwest Freeway (U. S. Highway 290) about 6:05 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 11).

The male victim, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Shaw and Officer T. Riley reported:

The driver of a silver Nissan Maxima was exiting the West Loop North onto the North Loop West near the Northwest Freeway when he failed to stay in a single lane.  The Nissan then left the roadway, went airborne and landed in a construction site several feet below, where it struck a parked unoccupied crawler crane.  The driver was ejected and died at the scene.
