December 26, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9400 block of the Southwest Freeway (South U. S. Highway 59) about 6:30 a.m. today.

The male victim, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institiute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Francois and Senior Police Officer A. Brown reported:

The driver of a black Chevrolet Aveo was traveling northbound on the Southwest Freeway when he noticed a metal swing set in the middle of the lane. The driver attempted to avoid the swing set but struck it and then lost control of his vehicle. The Aveo crossed over several lanes of traffic and struck the left rear of a silver Nissan Murano. The Murano rolled several times and the driver was killed.

The driver of the Aveo remained at the scene and there are no indications alcohol was factor in the accident.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is continuing.
