Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 3615 Tidwell
April 12, 2012 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 3615 Tidwell about 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday (April 11).
The suspect, William Thomas Johnson (w/m, DOB: 5-17-63), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 182nd State District Court. A photo of suspect Johnson is attached to this news release.
The male victim, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer M. Rios reported:
Johnson was driving a gray GMC Sierra pickup truck northbound on the Eastex Freeway (North U. S. Highway 59) service road when he ran the red light at the intersection of Tidwell. The GMC then struck a blue Volkswagen Jetta traveling eastbound on Tidwell. The Jetta then struck a gold Toyota Camry, along with two other vehicles, a white Chevrolet and a white Cadillac, traveling westbound on Tidwell. The passenger in the Jetta died at the scene. The female driver of the Jetta was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation determined Johnson was intoxicated and he was taken into custody at the scene. The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured.
