September 12, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 800 block of the North Sam Houston Parkway service road about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 11).

The female victim, 21, of Spring, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Her identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant N. Perry and Officer J. Ortiz reported:

The victim was driving a gold Toyota Camry eastbound on the North Sam Houston Parkway service road near the intersection of Greens Crossing when she struck the rear trailer of a blue Freightliner 18-wheeler.  The Camry then went underneath the trailer.  The victim was then transported to the hospital on a Life Flight helicopter.  According to witnesses at the scene, the victim was traveling at a high rate of speed and appeared to be looking down as she drove.

The investigation is continuing.
