September 6, 2011 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of another at 5903 Glenmont #193 about 5:45 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 4).
The victim, Roberto Melgar, 33, of Houston, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R.A. Odom and Officer M. R. Coleman reported:
Mr. Melgar and three friends were drinking and playing cards inside an apartment at the above location, when they heard a gunshot outside the residence. An unknown male suspect, armed with a gun, then forced open the door of the apartment and fired several shots, fatally striking Melgar and wounding one of his friends. The suspect fled the scene. Melgar's friends then called 9-1-1.
The suspect is described only as a Hispanic male in his late 20s, with a tattoo on his right forearm.
At this time, there is no known motive for the shooting.
