October 17, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident in the 12400 block of South Post Oak Road about 2:50 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 16).
The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer E. Morgado reported:
The victim was driving a white Hyundai Tiburon northbound on South Post Oak Road, approaching South Main Street. Witnesses stated he decided to take the South Post Oak bridge over Main when his vehicle ran over the concrete median, damaged the front left tire and disabled the vehicle near the top of the bridge in a moving lane of traffic. The victim got out of the vehicle and attempted to change the tire. At that time, a female passenger in his vehicle got out and argued with the victim regarding the safety of changing the tire in the traffic. As the female walked away, the victim, who was kicking the vehicle and the tire, walked into another lane and was struck by a van (unknown make and model). The driver of the van advised another passenger in the Hyundai to call 911 and then fled the scene. The male pedestrian died at the scene.
