November 23, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 14100 block of the Northwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 290) about 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 22). 

The male victim, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officer C. Tosso reported: 

A white Chevrolet Suburban was traveling westbound on the Northwest Freeway service road.  The driver of the Suburban then changed lanes and, due to his speed, was unable to avoid striking the rear of a disabled white Nissan 240SX.  The impact pushed the Nissan forward and over the driver of the vehicle (victim) and a second male, who were working underneath the hood of the Nissan.  The victim died at the scene.  The other male was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital in an unknown condition. 

At this time, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this incident.  The investigation is continuing.
