May 27, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 6100 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 2:15 a.m. today (May 27).

A female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer D. Phan reported:

The driver of a silver Kia Spectra was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway when she lost control of the vehicle and swerved into another lane.  A silver Jeep Wrangler then struck the Kia, killing the Kia’s driver.  The Jeep’s driver was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
