Suspect Arrested, Charged in Incident at 17435 Imperial Valley
July 25, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested for pointing a gun at a Houston police officer and then fleeing from officers at 17435 Imperial Valley about 7:45 p.m. last Wednesday (July 20).
The suspect, Andre Chaurdon Harland (b/m, DOB: 2-23-82), is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant in the 248th State District Court. A photo of Harland is attached to this news release.
HPD Officer B.A. LeBlanc, who discharged his duty weapon in the incident, was not injured. Officer LeBlanc, assigned to the North Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in November 2008.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Biggs and Officer M. Condon reported:
In the early evening hours of July 20, officers observed a male (the suspect) driving a gold Jaguar involved in an aggravated robbery four days earlier. The suspect noticed the officers and fled from an HPD marked patrol vehicle trying to initiate a traffic stop. During the pursuit, the suspect struck two parked vehicles and fled on foot in an apartment complex at the above address. While fleeing on foot from officers, the suspect pointed a pistol at Officer LeBlanc, who discharged his weapon one time, missing the suspect. The suspect managed to evade officers.
Further investigation identified Harland as the suspect in this case. The following day (July 21), he was taken into custody without incident and charged in this case.
