January 31, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 9000 East Freeway (Interstate Highway 10 East) about 1:35 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 29).

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer M. Rios reported:

The victim was driving a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck the wrong way on the East Freeway entrance ramp to Highway 90 when he struck a white Chevrolet Equinox.  The impact caused the victim's truck to catch fire.  The driver of the Equinox suffered serious leg injuries and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
