February 7, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 1900 block of the East Loop North (East Interstate Highway 610 North) about 1:55 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 6).

The male victim, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer E. Morgado reported:

The victim was driving a gray Isuzu pickup truck the wrong way in the southbound lanes of the East Loop and struck a white Dodge Ramcharger pickup truck traveling southbound on the Loop. The driver of the Isuzu died at the scene. The male driver of the Dodge was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition and faces possible charges of driving while intoxicated.

The investigation is continuing.
