Fatal Traffic Accident at 3800 Lyons

August 2, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in which a male stepped in front of a HPD patrol car at 3800 Lyons about 2 a.m. on Sunday (July 31).

The deceased male, age unknown, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. Doctors pronounced him dead on Monday (August 1). His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Officer T. Fletcher, assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division, was not injured in this accident. He was sworn in as an officer in September 2007.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeants D. Arnold, K. Shaw and Officer E. Morgado reported:

Officer Fletcher, responding to an assault in progress call, was traveling westbound in the 3800 block of Lyons when a male pedestrian walked into the street and was struck by the marked patrol car.

The investigation is continuing.
