April 6, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 4300 block of the North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday (April 5).

The female victim, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer J. Perrotte reported:

According to witnesses, the victim was driving a red Chevrolet Aveo southbound in the far left lane of the North Freeway when traffic stopped in front of her. The victim then swerved into the lane to her right and struck the rear of a tractor-trailer truck. The victim died at the scene. A front passenger in the Aveo was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital with minor injuries. The two rear passengers suffered head trauma and were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

The investigation is continuing.
