Investigation into Man’s Death at 8500 South Sam Houston Parkway East
October 4, 2010 - Houston police are investigating the death of a man at 8500 South Sam Houston Parkway East service road about 12:55 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 3).
The victim, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Two people involved in a related motor vehicle accident were transported to area hospitals. One of them, James Benjamin Aulds (w/m, DOB: 10-15-91), is charged with intoxicated assault in the 182nd State District Court.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Couch and Officer A. Brown reported:
Aulds was driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound on the South Sam Houston Parkway East service road when he struck a curb and lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Pearland Parkway. The pickup truck then left the roadway and landed at the bottom of a construction pit located at the northwest corner of the intersection.
Friends of Aulds and his passenger, a 17-year-old female, were following the pair in another vehicle and immediately stopped to help. One of them, an 18-year-old man, fell into the pit and died while trying to assist Aulds and the female.
The case is being investigated by the HPD Southeast Patrol and Vehicular Crimes Divisions.
