HPD Officers Speak With School Kids on Importance of Community March 31, 2010 - Officers from the Houston Police Department’s Community Services Unit met today with students at the John E. Codwell Elementary School’s Career Day. Officers James Byrd and Johanna Abad gave presentations to multiple classrooms of second grade students to familiarize the kids with a police officer’s job while keeping them engaged and learning. Photos of the presentation are attached to this news release. The officers discussed the wide variety of careers available within HPD and what it takes to be a police officer, including the importance of continuing their educations and staying out of trouble. Students were allowed to ask questions and had a chance to learn why the officers chose a career in law enforcement. The effort is part of the Houston Police Department’s ongoing effort to “Keep Houston Safe.” For more safety information, visit HPD’s web site at www.houstonpolice.org and click on the “Keep Houston Safe” logo.
