Surveillance Video, Photos in Jewelry Store Robbery Released June 10, 2010 - Investigators in the Houston Police Department’s Robbery Division are asking for the public’s assistance in locating one wanted suspect and identifying another wanted in the robbery of a jewelry store on May 27 in southwest Houston. The unknown suspect is described as a black male about 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 150 to 160 pounds and with a thin build. The second suspect, Derek Edward Franklin (b/m, DOB: 10-30-78), is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in the 177th State District Court. Both suspects remain at large. Surveillance photos of the wanted suspects are attached to this news release. A third suspect, Christopher Rayneal Hayes (b/m, DOB: 7-5-87), is charged with aggravated robbery with deadly a weapon in the 184th State District Court and is in custody. On May 27, three black male suspects arrived at the Ruby Jewelry Store at 5126 Woodway Drive. Two of the suspects entered the store, threatened an employee with handguns and then jumped the counter. The employee was then taken to the back of the store, tied up and pistol whipped. The third suspect (Hayes) remained outside as a look-out. The two suspects then broke into display cabinets and stole an undetermined amount of jewelry. The store employee went to the front of the store and, armed with a hand gun, fired several shots at the suspects. The two suspects then fled the scene in a green Chevrolet Suburban while Hayes fled on foot. Hayes was later arrested in the area of Chimney Rock and Woodway.
