Charges Filed in Child’s Death at 8655 Pitner #101 February 18, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death a female child at 8655 Pitner #101 about 1 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 14). The suspect, Jose Elias Herrera-Gomez (H/m, DOB: 9-1-86), is charged with injury to a child-serious bodily injury in the 248th State District Court. He is accused in the death of Kiara Martinez, 4, of the above address, who suffered blunt trauma and was transported to Spring Branch Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. F. Hanslik and Senior Police Officer R. A. Swainson reported: Kiara was taken to the hospital, unresponsive, by her mother and her mother’s boyfriend (Herrera-Gomez) after complaining of a stomach ache. An investigation determined Kiara had suffered severe internal injuries. Further investigation determined Herrera-Gomez was taking care of Kiara while her mother was at work. Herrera-Gomez later admitted to investigators he struck Kiara earlier in the week. He was then taken into custody without incident.
