Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 1990 Old Spanish Trail

October 30, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a woman at 1990 Old Spanish Trail about 6:35 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 29).

The suspect, Anthony J. Bell (b/m, DOB: 2-16-69) is charged with attempted capital murder in the 179th State District Court.

The victim, Dr. Stephanie Wuest, 28, of Houston, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Williams and Officer M. Khan reported:

Dr. Wuest had finished shopping inside the grocery store at 1990 Old Spanish Trail when she was approached by Bell in the parking lot. As Bell and Wuest struggled at the driver’s side door of her vehicle, Bell produced a gun and shot her several times. During the struggle, several witnesses notified a Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable, who was working as a security officer for the store. The deputy heard the shots, went to the scene and saw Bell in Wuest’s car taking several items. The deputy then took Bell into custody without incident. A gun and Wuest’s personal property were recovered at the scene.

The motive at this time appears to be robbery.
