Aggravated Assault of HPD Officer at 1100 Augusta

October 23, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the aggravated assault of a Houston police officer by an armed suspect in the 1100 block of Augusta Drive about 11:20 p.m. on Thursday.

The suspect is described only as a black male, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighs between 170 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap with a straight bill, a dark-colored thin, unbuttoned jacket, unknown color long pants and an unknown type of shoes.

Senior Police Officer C. O. Mickens Jr., who was not injured in this incident, is assigned to the Special Operations Division. He was sworn in as an officer in February 1993.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Dillingham and Senior Police Officer J. Bonaby III reported:

Officer Mickens was working an approved extra job at an apartment complex at 1100 Augusta when he was approached by an unknown male suspect who, while holding a gun, tried to get in the officer’s vehicle while the officer was inside. As Officer Mickens yelled out, the suspect fled on foot, westbound in the 5800 block of Sugar Hill Street. As Officer Mickens got out of his vehicle, the suspect turned towards him, pointed the gun and fired once. Officer Mickens did not discharge his duty weapon at the suspect due to being in a residential area. The suspect then ran and got into a waiting unknown make or model vehicle and fled westbound in the 5800 block of Sugar Hill.

Anyone with information on this case or on the identity of the wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
