Charges Filed in Fatal Traffic Accident at 600 North York June 1, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a juvenile suspect involved in a fatal traffic accident in the 600 block of North York about 11:40 p.m. on Sunday (May 31). The suspect, a 14-year-old male, has been referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a murder charge. The male victim, 15, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer J. Perrotte reported: The owner of a maroon Chevrolet Impala left his vehicle running in front of a store at 1020 Quitman when it was stolen from the location. The owner of the Impala stated he saw three males inside his vehicle as they fled the scene. The suspect was driving the Impala at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle over the railroad tracks in the 600 block of North York and swerved off the road to the right. The Impala then struck a tree, rolled and struck a water main and a second tree. The victim, a back seat passenger, died at the scene. The suspect and a male front seat passenger fled on foot before being taken into custody by a Harris County Precinct 6 Deputy Constable. The suspect and the passenger were then transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with minor injuries.
