Fatal Traffic Accident on Gulf Freeway Near El Dorado

January 20, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal auto/pedestrian traffic accident on the Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) near El Dorado about 5 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 17).
 
The identity of the male victim is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
 
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Casares and Officer D. Hall reported:
 
The victim was pulled over on the right shoulder of the freeway and, for unknown reasons, he walked into a moving lane of traffic in the southbound lanes.  At that time, he was struck by a green Chevrolet pickup truck.  The driver immediately pulled over and called 911, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
There are no indications the driver was impaired.  He told investigators he was on his way to work when the accident happened.
 
The investigation is continuing.
