Fatal Traffic Accident on Airport Blvd. at Mykawa

January 15, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on Airport Boulevard at Mykawa Road about 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 14).

The victim, Stephanie Banda, 18, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M.W. Bearden and Officer D.W. Ertons reported:

The female victim and a male, 21, were traveling in a gray Mitsubishi Montero westbound on Airport Boulevard approaching a red light at the Mykawa Road intersection. It has not been determined at this time which of the two (male or female) was driving the Montero. Witnesses stated the driver of the Montero passed by several vehicles stopped at the red light and then ran the red light, striking a black Ford Mustang traveling southbound on Mykawa with a green light. The impact killed the female in the Montero and ejected the male from the Montero. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Mustang, a 21-year-old male, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious condition.

The investigation is continuing.
