Fatal Traffic Accident at 6100 Fondren Road

January 9, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 6100 block of Fondren Road about 12:55 a.m. today (Jan. 9).

The male victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer I. Jefferson reported:

Witnesses saw a silver Honda Accord traveling southbound on Fondren at a high rate of speed. As the Honda changed lanes to go around other vehicles, the driver lost control and struck a tree in the median head on. The Honda then spun, struck a second tree in the median on the right passenger side, knocked over the second tree, and then split in half. Both halves of the Honda came to a stop in the northbound lanes of Fondren. The driver of the Honda was then taken to the hospital by HFD paramedics. No other vehicles were involved in this incident.

The investigation is continuing.
