Suspect Charged in Aggravated Assault at 6620 Ledbetter

January 2, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the aggravated assault of a woman at 6620 Ledbetter about 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 31). 

The suspect, Kenneth Michael Copeland (w/m, DOB: 12-17-83) is charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury in the 179th State District Court.  

The victim, Donna Leshet Navaro, 30, of Houston, suffered a laceration to the head area and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast in an unknown condition.    

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Rubio, Senior Police Officer L. K. Lovelace and Officer K. P. Carr reported: 

Ms. Navaro and Copeland were in a vacant apartment next door to where Copeland lives, using narcotics when Copeland attempted to force himself onto Navaro.  Copeland struck Navaro in the head with a golf club and then took her out of the apartment and put her in the middle of the street.  Witnesses then called police.  Copeland was taken into custody at the scene.
