Fatal Building Collapse at 6311 Gulf Freeway April 15, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the death of a man following a building collapse at 6311 Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday (April 14). The victim, Ramiro Sigala, 24, of Houston was pronounced dead on the scene. Mr. Sigala’s cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Senior Police Officer S. Anderson reported: While undergoing construction, a building at 6311 Gulf Freeway collapsed with three construction workers trapped inside. Sigala was killed and one of the injured workers was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in an unknown condition. A second injured worker was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital also in an unknown condition. Five other workers who were at the scene were not injured. This incident is being investigated by the Houston Fire Department, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the City of Houston Public Works and Engineering Department and the Houston Police Department.
