Fatal Traffic Accident at 10800 East Freeway

September 29, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 10800 block of the East Freeway (Interstate Highway 10 East) about 11:20 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 27).

The victim, Robert Thomas Emery, 54, of Big Pine Key, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer A. DeLeon reported:

Two motorcycles were traveling westbound on the East Freeway when a pedestrian (Mr. Emery) attempted to cross the freeway in front of them. One of the motorcyclists struck Emery. That motorcyclist was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with a possible broken arm.

Witnesses told investigators Emery was attempting to rescue stray dogs trapped on the median of the freeway.
