Shooting at 1205 West Loop North October 13, 2008 - The shooting of a man at 1205 West Loop North about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday (October 12) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury. The victim, 26, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. His identity is pending notification to family members. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant D.A. Ferguson and Senior Police Officer T.S. Tyler reported: The victim and his friend became involved in an altercation with two female entertainers at a gentlemen’s club because the victim thought the females stole his money. He (the victim) and his friend were escorted out of the club by security personnel. The victim called police and completed a police report of the incident, but, since he was still upset, remained at the location to wait for the two females to leave. The suspect (boyfriend of one of the females) arrived at the club and spoke with his girlfriend, before he left in his vehicle with the two females following in another. Both vehicles exited the parking lot and were followed by the victim. As they drove south on the West Loop North and approached the Old Katy Road exit, the victim passed the females and cut between their car and the suspect’s car (who was in front of the females) and suddenly stopped. The female’s car struck the victim’s truck, at which time the victim accelerated towards the suspect’s vehicle. The victim yelled and threatened the suspect as he drove next to him. The victim then took the Old Katy Road exit and stopped his truck, blocking the exit ramp. The suspect, also exiting, had to stop, as did other vehicles in the roadway. The victim then exited his truck and again yelled at the suspect, telling him he wanted his money back as well as making other threatening remarks. The suspect exited his car and stood by the door. The victim then got back into his truck and reversed his vehicle into the suspect’s car. As the victim was driving backward, the suspect, fearing for his life that the suspect was going to run over him, produced his concealed handgun (which he has a concealed handgun license for) and fired at the truck multiple times. The victim then placed the truck into gear and drove away, but stopped at the intersection of the West Loop North service road and Old Katy Road after one of the shots struck him in the head. The investigation revealed the suspect was an off duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office civilian jail employee. GO/JFC |
