Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting at 4010 West Bellfort

May 30, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 4010 West Bellfort about 9:10 p.m. on Saturday (May 24).

The suspect, David Escalera (H/m, DOB: 6-28-89), is charged with murder in the 228th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Miguel Bonilla, 24, of Houston. Mr. Bonilla suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Shirley and Officer J. Robles reported:

Bonilla was standing in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 4010 West Bellfort when he got into an argument with Escalera, who was driving a tan Chevrolet Impala. Escalera then produced a pistol, shot Bonilla once and fled the scene.

Further investigation identified Escalera as the suspect in this case and on Thursday (May 29) he was arrested and confessed to the shooting.
