Fatal Shooting of Robbery Suspect at 9409 North Freeway
May 27, 2008 - The fatal shooting of a robbery suspect by an employee at 9409 North Freeway about 12:30 p.m. on Friday (May 23) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The name of the deceased suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. A second robbery suspect, Elmer Armando Munguia (H/m, DOB: 9-23-73), was taken into custody and is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in the 174th State District Court.
The employee, Syed Hussain, 22, of Houston, was not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.R. McGalin and Officer D.W. Arnold reported:
Mr. Hussain was working as the clerk at the Texaco station located at 9409 North Freeway when the two suspects entered the store, selected merchandise and approached the counter. One suspect produced a handgun and the other a knife as they robbed Hussain, and then fled the store on foot. Hussain grabbed a gun and also ran outside, to obtain a vehicle description or license plate number. When Hussain turned the corner of the building, he encountered the suspects entering their vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a gun at Hussain who, fearing for his life, shot at the suspect, striking him.
The suspects then fled on foot as Hussain chased them for a brief time before he stopped and called police. The deceased suspect was located near the scene and Munguia was arrested nearby.
