Charges Filed in Man’s Death at 5135 North Freeway March 17, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a man found at 5135 North Freeway about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday (March 15). The suspect, Robert Daniel Lucas (w/m, DOB: 4-13-67), is charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Oscar Caldwell, 22, of 3606 Yorkingham, who suffered multiple contusions to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. J. Anthony and Officer R. Chappell reported: Mr. Caldwell was found, on the side of the road near the Skyline Apartments and appeared to have been beaten. A witness called for an ambulance, however, Caldwell died from his injuries. A second witness stated Caldwell showed up at the apartment complex with a handgun and threatened residents shortly before he was found. Further investigation identified Lucas as the suspect in this incident. Lucas confessed to killing Caldwell, stating Caldwell attempted to shoot him. Lucas was arrested without incident.
