Traffic Incident at 2606 Beatty January 20, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 2606 Beatty about 11:20 p.m. on Saturday (January 19). The male was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office. HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant P. Casares and Officers R.R. Gray and D.S. Schlicter reported: The victim and his wife were traveling in a green Chevrolet Blazer, at a high rate of speed, when the vehicle hit a wooden fence surrounding an apartment complex at 2606 Beatty and fell about 50 feet down into Sims Bayou. The victim and his wife exited the vehicle through the windshield and attempted to swim to the side of the bayou. The victim’s wife managed to swim to the edge of the bayou and was helped by a bystander. Witnesses saw the victim go under water but did not see him come back up. The HPD Dive Team and helicopter were called to search for the victim and, after several hours, recovered his body. The investigation is continuing.
