Fatal Traffic Accident at 15200 Eastex Freeway

December 29, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 15200 block of the Eastex Freeway (US Highway 59 North) about 4:05 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 27).

The identity of the female victim, 42, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L.H. Lefler and Officer D. Nguyen reported:

The driver of a blue Grand Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on the Eastex Freeway in a steady rain when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and collided with a concrete post on the vehicle’s passenger side.  A female front seat passenger was killed.  The driver and a male backseat passenger were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

As the Jeep Cherokee traveled across the main lanes of the freeway, it caused a second vehicle, a green Chevrolet Camaro, to go off the road and into a grassy area.  The vehicles did not make contact.  No one in the Camaro was injured.    

The investigation is continuing.
