Fatal Shooting at 6724 Avenue V

December 19, 2008 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 6724 Avenue V about 4:55 a.m. today.

The victim, Jose Alvarenga, 40, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J.M. De La Cruz and C.T. Mosqueda reported:

Arriving patrol officers were told that three unknown male suspects kicked in the back door of the residence at 6724 Avenue V while the family was asleep.  The males entered the home, demanded money and assaulted a female.  One of the suspects shot the victim and all three suspects fled the scene with some of the family’s items. 

The suspects are described only as young Hispanic males dressed in black clothing.
