SWAT Standoff Ends In Peaceful Resolution

October 2, 2007 - Houston Police patrol officers responded to a call of a female with a gun at the Mayfair Park Apartments at 7415 North Shepherd about 10 p. m. on Monday (October 1).

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 74 year-old female armed and threatening to commit suicide. Concerned with the safety of the elderly female and neighboring residents, the Houston Police S.W.A.T and Hostage Negotiation (H.N.T.) teams were called to the scene.

After a lengthy 10-hour standoff, thanks to an outstanding effort by S.W.A.T. and H.N.T. teams, negotiators successfully convinced the distressed female to come out of the residence unarmed about 8:40 a.m. today (October 2). She was then transported to the Neuro-Psychiatric Center for treatment. Officers recovered a 38-caliber pistol at the scene.

No charges are anticipated.
