Update on Incident at 6800 Wilcrest November 21, 2007 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a woman at 6800 Wilcrest about 9:35 p.m. on November 14. The suspect, Ruy Perez (H/m, DOB: 11-19-81), is charged with murder in the 176th State District Court in the killing of his estranged wife, Laela Perez, 26, of 11006 Hazen. Ms. Perez suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was pronounced dead. HPD Homicide Division Sergeants O. Chandler and M. Dillingham reported: Ms. Perez was sitting inside her vehicle at the intersection of Wilcrest and Bellaire, waiting for the light to change, when her estranged husband, Ruy Perez, pulled up in a separate vehicle and fired multiple shots at her vehicle. Ruy Perez then fled the scene east on Bellaire in an older model navy blue Honda Accord. Investigators were told the Perezes had been having marital problems and had discussed the possibility of getting divorced.
