Update on Incident at 3918 Hickok Lane November 9, 2007 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 3918 Hickok Lane about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday (November 4). The suspect, Chistopher Jones (b/m, DOB: 10-29-72), is charged with murder in the 184th State District Court. A photo of Jones is attached to this news release. The victim, Diego Vela, Jr., 39, of 3600 Aldefer Street, suffered a gunshot wound to his torso and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant D.A. Ferguson and Officer S. Straughter reported: Mr. Vela arrived at the Hickok Lane residence about 10 a.m. to do remodeling work. Vela was working on the bathroom when witnesses reported hearing several gunshots from within the house. Vela was found lying on the front yard shortly after the gunshots were heard. Vela was hired by the homeowner and had been working at the home for the last several months. A follow-up investigation identified Jones as the suspect in this case. On Thursday (Nov. 8) Jones was charged with murder.
