Traffic Incident at Katy Freeway at Wilcrest

March 20, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on the Katy Freeway (Interstate 10) near Wilcrest about 8:45 p.m. on Monday (Mar. 19).

The identity of the deceased male victim, believed to be about 60 years old, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant P. Casares and Officer T. Nguyen reported:

The victim was driving a white E-350 van westbound on the Katy Freeway when the vehicle struck a concrete pillar. It appears the victim was about to take the Wilcrest exit when the accident occurred. There were numerous animal cages inside the van, but no animals located inside. A witness told investigators it did not appear the driver of the van was speeding or driving recklessly.

The investigation is continuing.
