Update On Incident At 3777 South Gessner July 26, 2007 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested for the attempted capital murder of a peace officer at 3777 South Gessner about 8 a.m. on Saturday (July 21). HPD is seeking assistance in locating the second suspect. The peace officer, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy J. Urena, was not injured in the incident. Erik Rivera Garzon (H/m, DOB: 6/6/86) was arrested and is charged with attempt to commit capital murder in the 180th State District Court. Garzon was arrested on Monday (July 23) at 9700 South Gessner without incident. The wanted suspect, Alejandro Gonzales (H/m, DOB: 7/22/86), is charged with felony escape and felony evading in the 180th State District Court. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Officer M.F. Waters reported: Deputy Urena was working an extra job at the Boca Springs apartment complex when he attempted to arrest two suspects who burglarized several vehicles in the complex parking lot. As he attempted to arrest Gonzales, Garzon shot at Deputy Urena, who was able to return fire, and possibly striking the suspect. The follow-up investigation identified Garzon and Gonzales as the suspects in this case. As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s office. In addition, the Harris County Sheriff’s Department Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions are also investigating the incident since it involved a sheriff’s deputy.
