Incident at 3777 South Gessner July 22, 2007 - Houston police are investigating the attempted capital murder of a peace officer at 3777 South Gessner about 8 a.m. on Saturday (July 21). The peace officer, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy J. Urena, was not injured in the incident. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Officer M.F. Waters reported: Deputy Urena was working an extra job at the Boca Springs apartment complex when he attempted to arrest two suspects who burglarized several vehicles in the complex parking lot. As he attempted to arrest one of the suspects, the second suspect shot at Deputy Urena, who was able to return fire, and possibly striking the suspect. The suspects fled on foot and were not apprehended. Both suspects are described as Hispanic males between 20 to 25 years of age with short black hair. The first suspect is about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds, armed with a handgun. The second suspect is about 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 180 to 200 pounds. As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s office. In addition, the Harris County Sheriff’s Department Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions are also investigating the incident since it involved a sheriff’s deputy.
