Incident at 8535 Martin Luther King Boulevard July 1, 2007 - Houston police are investigating the fatal beating of a man at 8535 Martin Luther King Boulevard about 2:30 p. m. on Saturday (June 30). The identity of the victim, 22, is pending notification to family members. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died. Since there were no obvious signs of trauma, the cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Odom and Officer K. Carr reported: HPD officers responded to an assault in-progress call at a tire shop located at 8535 Martin Luther King Boulevard where they found the victim lying on the ground. According to witnesses, the victim pulled into the tire shop to have a tire replaced. Within moments, the suspect pulled into the tire shop and began yelling at the victim about a traffic altercation. The suspect began beating the victim, knocked him to the ground and then calmly walked back to his vehicle, a Ford Explorer, and fled north on Martin Luther King Blvd. The suspect is only described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall with a muscular build, and wearing a white shirt. He was driving a 2003-2006 gold or brown Ford Explorer with a partial Texas plate 856XX2. Witnesses observed an unknown female inside of the suspect's vehicle. The motive for the beating is unknown.
