Incident at 5600 North Freeway
February 18, 2007 -- Houston
police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 5600 North
Freeway (Interstate 45) about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday (February
17).
The victim, 29, suffered a gunshot wound and
was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification
to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s
office.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick
and Officers E. Carstens and T. Andrade reported:
The victim was driving his vehicle south on the
North Freeway mainlanes when the vehicle suddenly veered across
several lanes of traffic, onto and across the service road before
crashing through a fence. The vehicle came to rest in the grassy
area of a nearby church. Witnesses initially believed the incident
was a traffic accident, however it was later determined that the
victim had been shot.
A well kept, four-door maroon Buick or similar
type sedan was seen speeding away from the location at the time
of the incident. Investigators would like to speak to the occupants
of this vehicle.
There is no known motive at this time.
