Traffic Incident at 22400 Eastex Freeway December 2, 2007 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 22400 block of the Eastex Freeway (Highway 59 North) about 4:10 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 1). The suspect, Jorge Luis Arellano (H/m, DOB: 11/21/64), faces a possible charge of intoxication manslaughter. The female passenger, 41, suffered major head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office. HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant S.A. Perez and Officers Y. Bashir and R. Davidson reported: Arellano was driving a green Ford Explorer northbound on the Eastex Freeway at a high rate of speed and attempted to exit the freeway, according to witnesses. Arellano lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll over. The victim (passenger) was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Arellano was taken by Life-Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital and later determined to have superficial wounds. The investigation is continuing.
