Traffic Incident at 7200 Southwest Freeway
April 30, 2007 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 7200 Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) about 3:50 a.m. today (April 30).
The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office.
HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant R.C. Gonzales and Officers S.M. Johnson and J. Perrotte reported:
According to witnesses, an 18-wheeler struck the pedestrian as he attempted to cross the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway. The driver of the 18-wheeler then struck the left retaining wall as he took evasive action. A second vehicle, described as a red Toyota Corolla, then struck the victim and fled the scene. Southbound traffic lanes on the Southwest Freeway were shut down for two and one half hours while officers conducted their investigation and the Texas Department of Transportation repaired displaced barricades.
Investigators are seeking the driver of the Toyota Corolla for questioning at this time. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065.
