Incident at 6311 Allegheny Street

April 27, 2007 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 6311 Allegheny Street about 3 a.m. today (Apr. 27).

The victim is identified as Melvin Shamraine Abbott, 24, of 6409 Peerless. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers R.A. Swainson and C.P. Abbondandolo reported:

Officers responded to several calls of discharging firearms and, while investigating those calls, were alerted by witnesses to a shooting at an apartment complex. Officers arrived and found Mr. Abbott in a parking lot.

The suspect is described only as a black male in his 20s who fled the scene in a black four-door vehicle.

The motive for the incident is unknown at this time.
