Incident at 15902 Galveston Road #2011
April 25, 2007 - Charges are pending against a suspect wounded by Houston police officers after he pointed a gun at officers at 15902 Galveston Road #2011 about 6:30 a.m. today (April 25).
The suspect, Joseph Juan Flores (H/m, DOB 11/24/83), was shot by officers and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. He faces charges of attempted capital murder of a police officer and is expected to survive his injuries.
The officers who discharged their weapons were F.P. Scoggins III and F. Rodriguez Jr. of the Narcotics Division. Officer Rodriguez was sworn in as an officer in December 1982 and Officer Scoggins in October 1982. The officers were not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Cruz and Officers J. Selvera and D. Vasquez reported:
Officers with the HPD Narcotics Division had gone to 15902 Galveston Road #2011 to serve a narcotics search warrant. Officers knocked on the door and announced themselves as police officers serving a search warrant. After receiving no response, officers forced their way into the apartment and were met by Flores who was pointing a gun at them. Officers fearing for their safety discharged their duty weapons and struck Flores.
Officers located an undetermined amount of narcotics inside the apartment.
As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney’s office are investigating the case.
