Incident at 9600 Southwest Freeway
April 18, 2007 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of two others in the 9600 block of the Southwest Freeway (Highway 59 South) service road about 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday (Apr. 17).
The deceased victim is identified as Jose Amilcar Reyes Guidos, 43, of El Salvador. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head. A second victim, Moises DeJesus Mejia, 34, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. A third victim was wounded in the arm and treated and released from an area hospital.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.E. Elliott and Officer J. C. Bonaby reported:
A silver Ford pickup truck exited the freeway and was stopped in traffic on the exit ramp when two Hispanic male suspects approached the truck on foot and shot at the vehicle multiple times. The silver pickup fled and ran the red light at the Southwest Freeway service road at Bissonnet and struck a Honda Sedan traveling westbound on Bissonnet. Several persons inside the silver pickup fled on foot.
A green Chevrolet pickup truck was seen following the silver pickup through the intersection. A Hispanic male suspect exited the green pickup and shot at the silver pickup and the fleeing men. Other Hispanic male suspects shot from the passenger side of the green pickup and possibly struck their own vehicle. Mr. Mejia, who was a passenger in the silver pickup, collapsed in the middle of the intersection with a gunshot wound to the head and was run over by the green pickup as it left the scene.
The silver pickup then fled and pulled into a parking lot nearby where the persons remaining in the truck fled on foot. It was then that Mr. Guidos was found dead in the bed of the silver pickup truck.
When HPD investigators questioned a third victim, he stated he was walking across the intersection of Bissonnet and the Southwest Freeway when the shooting took place and was struck by a stray bullet in the arm.
According to witnesses, the suspects were driving in a green Chevrolet pickup with Texas license plates 26R-JS2. Anyone with information on the wanted vehicle or the suspects is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
