Update on Incident at 13400 Main
April 16, 2007 - Houston police homicide investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) wanted in the fatal shooting of a juvenile female in the 13400 block of Main about 12:35 a.m. on Saturday (April 14).
The victim, Cornisha Teresa McCowan, 13, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Hospital.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants B. Harris and M. McStravick and Officers T.A. Andrade and T.J. McCorvey reported:
When a relative picked up the victim and a friend from a skating rink, their vehicle was approached by another vehicle with unknown suspects. This suspect(s) began shooting at their vehicle, and the victim was struck multiple times. She was driven directly to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation has revealed there was a disturbance between two groups of males inside a skating rink near the corner of Main and Chimney Rock. One of the individuals from the groups was wearing a yellow bandana around his neck. As those groups fought, two groups of females started to fight each other. Cornisha was not associated with either of the fighting groups and it is believed she was a victim of mistaken identity. The skating rink is a popular hangout for youths aged 13 to 18 years old. The vehicle in which she was riding was shot at approximately six blocks from the skating rink.
Anyone with information on the fight inside the rink and possible suspects in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
