Incident at 3200 Tidwell
September 25, 2006 -- Houston
police are searching for a suspect wanted in the attempted capital
murder of a police officer at 3200 Tidwell on September 25 about
6:30 a.m.
The suspect, Edward
Craig Hunt, (b/m, DOB: 7-19-78), is currently wanted for burglary
of a habitation in the 338th State District Court.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B.C. McDaniel
and Officer R.A. Moreno reported:
Sergeant R. Barrios of the Northeast Differential
Response Team was conducting an investigation at a motel at the
3200 block of Tidwell when he observed Hunt commit a traffic violation.
Sergeant Barrios asked Hunt for identification and he provided
the officer with an identification card that did not match Hunt's
appearance. Sergeant Barrios attempted to detain Hunt in order
to verify his identity, but Hunt resisted, fought Sergeant Barrios,
and fled on foot. Sergeant Barrios gave chase and again struggled
with the suspect. Hunt got back into his vehicle and attempted
to run over Sergeant Barrios with his vehicle. Sergeant Barrios
did not have enough time to move and as a result, he discharged
his revolver one time at Hunt in an attempt to get him to change
paths and not run over him. Hunt stopped the vehicle, backed up
and sped away from the scene.
Sergeant Barrios, sworn in as an officer in November
1981, suffered lacerations to his hands and body.
The investigation led to the identification of
Hunt who was found to have an outstanding felony warrant for burglary
of a habitation. Hunt was located at his mother's house in north
Harris County; however, he fled on foot into nearby woods.
Anyone with information on Edward Craig Hunt's
